Pilot Light

Down deep inside the depth of soul, A shielded flame, it keeps me whole. So strong it keeps me sane and warm, This guiding light of holy storm. Unmindful eyes forget this flame, But during darkest nights exclaim, What splendid beauty brightly burns, Away the fear so joy returns. Oh light of peace well woven deep, My anxious heart in sunny warmth to steep. In chaos whispers flame of might, Such hope to chase away the night, To bring me courage, strength and faith, To fight despair and haunting wraiths. Dismay and anguished life that strains,  Through troubling times yet peace remains. Unseen yet always felt; How droll, Such light could warm a worried soul. Through tears and pain, though grief assail, My prudent guide yet welds my heart so frail. This light which holds coherence tight, Ignites the mind with peace delight. Secured by faithful tiny thread, Endure the days so filled with dread. The rain will never cause its death, Neither the wind shall ...

The One That Stays

This poem is the contrasting half of  "Where to Stand" The One That Stays Other people may run away But I’ll be the one that stays. When you get it wrong and try to change But it takes more time than realized For those goals to be attained I’ll be the one who stays. When you have given all you can give And ask for help in return Others may desert you But I’ll be the one who stays. When you’re frustrated with yourself And think you’re undeserving So you push everyone away I’ll be the one that stays. Oh, can’t you see You will always be loved by me I’ll be the one that stays.

The Morning Steam

Image
The Morning Steam Porcelain mug filled to the brim, Perfectly sugared and creamed. Left to cool, it lets off steam, As I go about my tasks. While the coffee is cooling My morning is going, And I must not get left behind. The kitten is fed and I’ve made the bed, The dishes are now put away. Now comes the hard part, The real morning start up, How do I write my quota each day? So much to do and I just have today, But I think I’ll sit outside, Drink up my coffee and count all the birds that I spy.   (photo by Rose&ThornPoetry)

Dandelion Fluff

Image
Dandelion Fluff She stands in the field Of fuzzy white tops, And in her hand she holds A dandelion gone to seed, Its petals turned to fluff. She closes her eyes and makes a wish And with the gentle breeze she blows. In the wind they float away, Float away on wings of fluff.  A gossamer display on a backdrop of blue, The seeds of the once bright yellow flower, Unhurried and unworried  They buoyantly drift in the breeze. Though the flower is dead, The seeds still yet live, And will bloom in the field once again.

Cherry Blossoms on Water

Image
I cannot find the beautiful picture that inspired me to write this poem, but hopefully you can see it in your mind 😉 Here's something that I drew as consolation Cherry Blossoms on Water Mirroring glass, a liquid road Reflecting the frothy trees. Every shade of pink explodes From the bending branches above. Delicate blossoms release their hold Below they shatter, the petals scatter Pink confetti on the water bestowed. *I finally found the picture :) You can find the original here https://www.flickr.com/photos/aflanio/4512851232/lightbox/  This photo was taken by Aflânio Tomikawa. Isn't it beautiful?

Cup of Tea

"Cup of Tea" You’re not everyone’s cup of tea, And that’s okay. Some people like mild and reserved like A soothing cup of earl grey. Or wild and daring like A chai mocha latte. Some people get a taste and walk away, And for all the ones that pass you by I wish someone would say You’re not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s okay. Not everyone can handle the diversity that’s you; You are a unique blend all your own. A mixture of personality and dreams, A one-of-a-kind enchanting brew, A fantastic tapestry being sewn, Completely unrepeatable. I find that rarity is a blessing Though often misunderstood. So, despairing thoughts eschew, hope do renew, For someone is looking for such a specialty blend. Maturing and changing still continue, But in the meantime, Don’t stop becoming you. You have a precious and uncharted future, I hope you find that reassuring. You are the only you anyone can ever know, And you’re worth treasuring. A masterpiece made, Des...

The Things

I am a list person. I love making lists, so I made a short list of what I feel are some of the worst and most wonderful things about life. The Things The difficult things A betrayed heart A futile hope Burned dreams Forever stuck in 2nd place Unable to express the right words Buried under shame The scapegoat of someone’s anger Unrequited love The beautiful things A heart that does not give up Restored relationships Experiencing grace A stranger’s compassion Complete understanding A finished task A sincerely humble apology Authenticity established in trust
