The Sleeping Dragon

Image
The Sleeping Dragon Inside my soul there sleeps A passionate fiend, A dragonous beast-- A heart that beats. The roaring, raging emotionality, Strong and dangerous brutality, I try to keep it at rest, Keep it subdued, Hidden and suppressed. The many feelings kept sleeping inside, You can’t see them, I’ve put them out of sight. All those bothersome emotions, In a morphed distorted beast. A dangerous and difficult task, To manage this monster with its vast array of teeth. Slowly breaking me down, From inside, these burning feelings. In weariness I fear this mayhem may get released. Oh that complicated compilation, Of all those tiresome emotions. I never know when it will awake, What disaster it will try to initiate. I can’t promise constraint when it finally breaks away. Without relent it seeks a way To let itself be freed. This seething dragon devising inside my head, I mustn’t listen to the trickery. For if these emotions are given credenc...

To Bear Your Soul Upon A Page

Because sometimes telling people your goals or fears feels like giving them your SSN To Bear Your Soul Upon A Page To bear your soul upon a page To write with ink from within the heart To show the truth of who you are To expose the substance of the deepest part It is a terrifying dangerous thing To let someone know Your thoughts and feelings Hopes and fears Facts that are weapons and something more: The ammunition given to start a war To hand over the sharpened knife, the loaded gun, the jagged spear It is a terrifying dangerous thing To be known so crystal clear It shouldn’t come as a surprise When you’ve equipped the masses with your heart’s private thoughts But still it’s hard to realize the possibility of your own demise If you forget and turn your back You may not again rise For it is a terrifying dangerous thing To bear your soul upon a page To leave your soul spliced and splayed for all the world to see To let the secrets out and let spies come in Being...

Where to Stand

This poem is about that confusing feeling in a relationship when you don't know what the other person is thinking. I've seen many people in this place, and I have been here too. It's difficult when there is a lack of honest communication. It can happen in any relationship, leaving you wondering where to stand.   *This poem has a contrasting counterpart The One That Stays Where to Stand I don’t know where we stand, But there was a time my heart was in your hand. You pulled me close then pushed away, Acted sweet then changed your ways. I don’t know where I stand. You became distant but then you complained, That you missed me, Wanted to see me. And acted like nothing changed. I don’t know where to stand. You give me hope that we can be, But then you seem to dislike all that is me. I’m not sure where I should stand. Now I’m left in the in between, Left in the wondering of what you mean. I’m stuck in midair with no where to go-- I’d rather fall than...

Outcomes

Outcomes (A poem about point of view) He made a guess and it turned out fine, How smart he is. He made a guess and it turned out wrong, What a fool is he, He should have know better. The same things done, The same choices made, But depending on the outcome, People’s views change. Words were spoken, Words were written. If there is silence, Then “Perhaps I should have said nothing.” But if there is confirmation, Then “I am so glad I said something.” The same words spoken The same words arranged But depending on the outcome People’s views change He loves her and she loves him, How sweet they say. He loves her and she does not. Is he a creeper and she is prey? Or is she foolish and he a jackpot? Do we base choices on outcomes, On happy endings? On others’ thoughts? You loved with all you had And you were accepted. You loved with all you had And you were rejected. If you do the right thing and people hate you, If you do the wrong thing and people l...
