Lily Pads

Lily Pads

On a glossy lake, on a hazy morn,
The sun glistens over water blue,
And with dazzling white glimmers adorns,
The lake with glossy hues.

Sparkles dance with the rippling waves,
Where round green leaves float serenely above.
Unfurling stalks turn into blooms,
White diamond petals resting on a green velvet bed.

Lonely drifter, surface skimmer,
With distant anchor, distant hold,
Waxy petals that slowly unfold,
Watching the world as it sways to and fro.

The flower boat bobbing on water’s shifting surface,
Shimmering, twinkling from brightness of day.
Up and down it rides each ripple, going no place, going someplace.
With the wind and waves the solitary skiff swans away.

Never far from where it blooms,
The water lily, the lake nymph,
Provides a rest for travelers weary,
The drowsy dragonfly and the sleepy frog.

Lonely drifter, surface skimmer,
With distant anchor, distant hold,
Waxy petals slowly unfold,
Watching the world as it drifts to and fro.
