Assumptions

Assumptions. They are everywhere. They are the first step in finding truth but not truth itself. Sometimes it is easier just to assume than to go to trouble of finding out for sure. Here are some assumptions (more of a list than a poem) that I have encountered and some I have assumed myself. Have you ever assumed these things or had them assumed about you? Assumptions People assume if your siblings are taller, they are older People assume if you’re good at something, you must also like it People assume if you listen quietly and politely, you must agree with them If you take a break, people assume you must have given up or forgotten If you are slow to accept an idea people assume you are stubborn If you are quick to accept an idea people assume you are fickle People assume         if you find yourself in bad circumstances, it is the result of your irresponsibility         if you talk about yourself, it...

I Long to Breathe / Don't Look at Me

I Long to Breathe I find it difficult to breathe when you are around, I choke and suffocate yet never make a sound. You exhale toxic fume that poisons my delight, But I’m afraid of confrontation and putting up a fight. Spew your negativity, Scream your hateful words, Continue on your rampage, on your heedless “holy” war. Expel all that pent up rage, Spill it all on me. I’ll breathe in joy one day, I’ll breathe in love and peace, When I free myself from your subjection and selfish lack of responsibility. Don't Look at Me Some people run through life excited Some dance with joy unhindered Some frolic in fields of beauty But…       …I…                       ...I...        ...

Lily Pads

Image
(Drawing by Rose&Thorn Poetry) Lily Pads On a glossy lake, on a hazy morn, The sun glistens over water blue, And with dazzling white glimmers adorns, The lake with glossy hues. Lonely drifter, surface skimmer, With distant anchor, distant hold, Waxy petals that slowly unfold, Watching the world as it sways to and fro. The flower boat bobbing on water’s shifting surface, Shimmering, twinkling from brightness of day. Up and down it rides each ripple, going no place, going someplace. With the wind and waves the solitary skiff swans away. Never far from where it blooms, The water lily, the lake nymph, Provides a rest for travelers weary, The drowsy dragonfly and the sleepy frog. Lonely drifter, surface skimmer, With distant anchor, distant hold, Waxy petals slowly unfold, W...
